Before you join
- Adult beginners
Read the joining page and check a first session with the club before completing registration. Beginners complete a three-week introduction. Experienced paddlers undertake an instructor-supervised capsize drill at their first pool session. Annual club membership is separate from the national membership required by the club. Fees have no stated current season, so confirm the charges and next intake.
- Junior paddlers
The home page says 12 and above, or eight and above if water-confident and accompanied by an adult. Its joining page instead says minimum 11, unless a paddling parent accompanies their own children over eight. These differ at ages eight and 11 and on who accompanies the child. Confirm acceptance and supervision before registering. Registration asks whether everyone taking part can swim 25 metres; ask how that question applies to the planned session.
- Equipment
The club provides a boat, paddle and spraydeck for pool sessions. Its joining page includes equipment and tuition in the session fee. Swimmers normally wear swimwear with a T-shirt or rash vest. Tell the club before bringing your own boat and clean it thoroughly inside and out. Arrange outdoor-trip equipment separately; the pool list is not a complete river kit list.
- Accessibility
The pool operator identifies two disabled parking spaces, ramp access, an accessible toilet and accessible changing/showers. A hoist is located in the main pool. These describe swimming access. They do not establish how a paddler could transfer into a kayak, what specialist boats Tawe has or who could help on the water. Discuss those arrangements with the club and centre before enrolling.
- Where the club paddles
The club names Ystradgynlais Sports Centre for its Friday pool programme, with separate junior, teen/adult and polo slots. The operator and named OpenStreetMap building agree on SA9 1AP. The map shows the sports-centre area, not a meeting entrance. Outdoor paddles use different river or coastal locations. Confirm the group, date and arrival instructions with the club.
