Paddle Avon

Paddle Avon is a volunteer-run members' club at Saltford Rowing Centre. Formerly Canoe Avon, it supports beginners and experienced paddlers through touring, marathon and moving-water kayaking, alongside sea trips, canoes and paddleboards.

Before you join

Adult beginners: Rolling annual membership costs £60 for an adult or £160 for a household family of up to four. Experienced paddlers need a Discover Award, former 1 Star or equivalent assessment. Beginners complete the club's Discover and PaddleSafer course over two consecutive Saturdays.
Junior paddlers: Junior membership costs £35 a year and starts at age 12 or school Year 7. A parent or guardian who is also a member must supervise the junior, unless a club coach has accepted responsibility for a prearranged coaching session. The family rate covers up to four people.
Equipment: Members may use the club's equipment and facilities, with no extra on-site equipment charge. Club kayaks and canoes are recorded through the river register and checked by the user. The club does not hire equipment to the public, and taking kit away needs committee permission.
Accessibility: The official site explains key-controlled access, shared changing and shower facilities, parking and club equipment, but it does not publish a step-free route, assisted transfer plan, adapted craft list or personal support offer. Discuss the site and water access needed before joining.
Where the club paddles: Supported sessions run on Sundays throughout the year, on the water from 10am to noon. Wednesday sessions run from April through September, usually 6pm to 9pm or darkness. The river level, coaching plan and trip notice can change whether a session runs and which craft is suitable.
