Lee Valley Paddlesports Club

Lee Valley Paddlesports Club is based at Lee Valley White Water Centre. It has different memberships for flatwater and whitewater activity, with booked sessions, coaching and trips. Joining starts with the membership secretary. A paid application still needs volunteer acceptance, and membership alone does not qualify someone for the Legacy or Olympic course.

Before you join

Adult beginners

Contact the membership secretary to discuss experience, coaching and the right membership. Flatwater and whitewater products cover different activities. Members must book suitable sessions; Legacy and Olympic water require an assessment or an authorised coached development booking. Non-members need express permission. Complete the application and payment, then wait for acceptance by the volunteer team. Current WebCollect products expire on 31 March 2027 after a return to an April membership year. Older website and constitution wording still describes October-September.

Junior paddlers

The FAQ says applicants must be over eight and places depend on vacancies; ask about the exact starting age. Current junior products say under 18, but the linked constitution includes 18-year-olds as juniors. Confirm the correct category at that age. Under-16 solo travel needs parental confirmation, subject to the policy's older-sibling exception. These travel rules do not require parents to paddle. Making Waves is invitation only for youngsters up to 16 with confirmed places in the running course. It is not an open free-membership offer.

Equipment

The club hires a limited stock for authorised activities, with coached groups given priority. Request a boat and equipment at least a day ahead where possible. Hire is charged separately, although specified kit on a coached course is included in that course fee. Confirm the particular craft and fitting before booking. Membership descriptions about equipment use do not establish unlimited free hire or personal-boat storage.

Accessibility

The centre's linked AccessAble guide describes an entrance ramp, automatic doors and accessible changing with a ceiling hoist. It reports no changing bench and says wheelchair users may need assistance on the sloping route from parking. A wheel-in shower is listed. None of this verifies a kayak transfer, accessible water entry or personal care from club volunteers. Discuss those needs with both the centre and club.

Where the club paddles

The club's registered address is Lee Valley White Water Centre, Station Road, Waltham Cross, EN9 1AB. The map shows the centre area, not a measured boundary, accessible entrance or water access point. Follow the operator's current parking instructions, including vehicle registration at its terminals on every visit. Parking conditions depend on the visit; do not assume an unrestricted free stay.
