Before you join

Adult beginners

New and experienced paddlers can join the adult programme. The adult pages say 18+, but the membership page and linked membership offer start at 19. Ask about eligibility at 18 before paying. Regular sessions require advance booking and relevant membership. Independent paddles need experience and staff approval; they are not beginner coaching. Check current taster charges and concession eligibility.

Junior paddlers

Youth membership covers ages 8-19. The session page also describes participation up to 25 for young people with special educational needs. Activities can include paddling and land-based sessions. Book the appropriate group rather than assuming every youth session is on the water. School collection arrangements apply to the named school sessions, not every child. Confirm consent and collection rules for the chosen activity.

Equipment

Leaside supplies the equipment for its club paddling. Adult session instructions ask for a complete change of clothes, a towel and footwear that stays on securely. Dress for the weather and getting wet. Independent use of club boats is restricted to approved paddlers during the relevant sessions. Ask about fit and any adapted equipment when arranging participation.

Accessibility

Paddleability is a separate programme for ages 8-25 with diagnosed additional needs. An enquiry and welcome assessment come before group participation. Leaside describes accessible pontoons, changing and parking, with adapted paddleboards among its options. There is no hoist, and hoist-dependent transfers cannot be accommodated. Bring your own support person for personal care. Companion places need advance agreement.

Where the club paddles

The Leaside Trust is at 34 Spring Lane, Clapton, London, E5 9HQ, beside the River Lea. Its session booking details give the same address and a mapped location. The map shows the venue area, not a transfer point or guaranteed parking space. Office hours are not paddling-session times. Check the chosen programme's booking instructions before travelling.
