Lancaster and the River Lune, England

Lancaster and District Canoe Club

Lancaster and District Canoe Club is based at the 33rd Lancaster Sea Scout Hut on Halton Road. Beginners join through a club course; experienced paddlers can enquire about a first club night. River Lune sessions, whitewater trips and Carnforth pool practice have different arrangements. Membership includes regular club-evening equipment use, with separate hire terms for other paddles.

Before you join

Adult beginners

Ask the club about the next beginner course and its cost. The owner usually schedules courses around late March or early April, but no current intake is confirmed here. Beginner membership follows a club course. Experienced paddlers should arrange an initial club-night visit through the contact route. The annual price table has no season attached. Check the latest charges and membership approval before attending.

Junior paddlers

The junior category covers members younger than 18. The constitution's open-membership wording does not set a minimum paddling age, swim requirement or parent-attendance rule. Ask the club how those apply to the chosen course or trip. Its changing guidance lets under-eights use an opposite-gender changing room with a parent or guardian; this is not an age-eight joining rule. Arrange the child's support and changing needs beforehand.

Equipment

The equipment policy lists river and sea kayaks, canoes, paddleboards, paddles, buoyancy aids, wetsuits, cags and helmets for member use. Regular club-evening borrowing is included in membership. Club trips and peer outings have separate rental terms. Arrange the craft and collection with the equipment team. Hiring club kit does not turn a member-arranged peer paddle into a club-led outing.

Accessibility

Carnforth's Swim England entry labels its entrance and parking accessible, along with toilets and changing rooms. It links to the council rather than the current community website; confirm facilities directly with the operator. The club's changing policy describes small rooms and toilets at the Scout hut. Neither source establishes adapted kayaks, accessible river launching or a particular transfer arrangement. Discuss the actual venue and assistance needed before booking.

Where the club paddles

The base is the 33rd Lancaster Sea Scout Hut on Halton Road, LA1 2EG. Pool practice uses Carnforth Community Swimming Pool on Kellet Road, LA5 9LS. The map identifies that pool-building area, not the Scout hut or river access. The owner says summer evenings run April-October; the national listing describes April-September. Confirm the autumn changeover and meeting point directly.
