Before you join
- Adult beginners
Beginners are encouraged to take a Paddle UK Start or Discover course. Experienced paddlers may attend one session before joining, arranged in advance. Creating a Paddle UK account does not make you a club member; a separate membership purchase is required. The final advertised kayak course dates were in September 2026. Ask about future dates rather than booking those past sessions.
- Junior paddlers
Pathfinders has a separate youth contact and joining route. New paddlers should ask its Youth Development Officer about the beginner course normally held after Easter. Experienced youngsters should also contact the section first. The club overview describes ages 11-18, while the joining page is labelled under 18s. Confirm the appropriate section if you are 18.

- Where the club paddles
The club hut is on the lock island at Abingdon, reached on foot across the lock. Vehicle access uses the track beside Rye Meadow car park. Club parking is limited to its allocated area; follow the owner's directions and arrange the meeting point before attending. The map shows the lock area, not the hut door, parking space or launch.
