Hemel Hempstead Canoe Club paddles from Nash Mills on the Grand Union Canal. Seasonal taster sessions and Discover courses lead into member trips, coaching and several recreational and competitive disciplines.

Before you join
- Adult beginners
Members are expected to have Paddle UK Discover-level skills. Beginners can book a six-week Discover course or start with a taster. The taster page says sessions run from April to October, while the FAQ says early September and the live schedule shows no event after 28 September 2026. Check the booking page before travelling.
- Junior paddlers
The club welcomes all ages. Under-14s must attend with an adult. For under-12s, the club recommends a canoe with the adult unless another arrangement is agreed, and the adult must stay on the water.
- Equipment
A taster includes a suitable craft, paddle and personal flotation device. Members can use club equipment, subject to availability. Taking equipment away needs committee approval, and the club suggests a GBP 10 daily donation for off-site use.
- Accessibility
The national directory marks the club as Paddle-Ability friendly. The official site gives no practical step-free, changing, transfer or adapted-craft details. Discuss the exact support needed before booking.
- Where the club paddles
The clubhouse is at Nash Mills Recreation Centre beside the Grand Union Canal. Use the signed entrance opposite the Red Lion pub, next to the bridge and traffic lights. The club says its building cannot receive post.
