Godalming District Scout Canoe Club

Godalming District Scout Canoe Club teaches Scouts, Guides, Explorers and their leaders from its River Wey base. Its programme progresses from tasters and five-week beginner blocks into longer Explore and whitewater training.

Before you join

Adult beginners: The published adult route is for people training to help deliver activities to Scouts and Guides. It is not presented as general public adult membership. The club says all its 2026 course places are full, so contact it only about future training or volunteering.
Junior paddlers: Courses are for Scouts, Guides and Explorers rather than unrestricted public junior membership. Group tasters require the group's own leader to attend and accept up to 15 Scouts or older participants, or 12 Cubs. All published 2026 tasters are full.
Equipment: Taster sessions include a boat, paddle and buoyancy aid. Course fees include tuition and equipment, with a spraydeck added for Explore and whitewater training. The separate equipment inventory is dated 2021, so it is not treated as a current guarantee.
Accessibility: The club publishes changing rooms and a toilet and asks groups to explain additional requirements. It does not describe a step-free route, accessible changing, assisted launching or adapted craft. Ask what the site and coaches can support before applying.
Where the club paddles: The club is based on Natalia Way beside the River Wey. Published courses run on Tuesday evenings, but those times belong to booked course blocks and are not a walk-in timetable. Follow the club's arrival instructions for the shared Scout site.
