Gloucester Canoe Club shares Gloucester Boathouse on the Gloucester and Sharpness Canal. Members train for marathon racing, build whitewater skills and join touring paddles on local rivers and further afield.

Before you join

Adult beginners: Complete beginners normally enter through one of two four-session courses, usually in spring or early summer when numbers allow. Every beginner must complete a safe capsize in a pool before off-site activity. Experienced paddlers should send an enquiry describing their background and interests.
Junior paddlers: The current membership guide does not publish a standing junior group, minimum age or junior timetable. The national directory says a junior development group depended on finding enough volunteers, so families should ask whether any suitable route now exists.
Equipment: New members can use club boats and equipment for up to their first 12 months. The club then expects members to buy their own paddling kit, with personal kit needed for winter. Boat storage is limited to active members and currently has a waiting list.
Accessibility: Paddle UK's listing marks the shared boathouse as having accessible facilities. Neither the membership guide nor the venue page sets out gradients, transfer help, waterside access or adapted craft. Ask what can be supported on the session you want.
Where the club paddles: The club uses Gloucester Boathouse beside the Gloucester and Sharpness Canal. The canal supports introductory training and marathon work. Touring and whitewater groups also meet elsewhere, so use the trip or session instructions rather than assuming every activity starts at the boathouse.
