Glanford and Scunthorpe Canoe Club

Glanford and Scunthorpe Canoe Club paddles on the River Ancholme at Brigg through summer, then moves into Ancholme Leisure Centre's pool. Its programme covers coached beginners, canoe polo, racing, slalom, whitewater trips and family paddling.

Before you join

Adult beginners: Newcomers can attend up to four coached sessions before deciding whether to join. Booking is usually required. Summer activity uses the river, while winter pool places are sold in blocks and can fill, so contact the membership or bookings officer first.
Junior paddlers: The club welcomes families and paddlers of different ages, and it maintains a youth representative. No single minimum age or permanent junior timetable is published across its current pages, so parents should ask which coached group has space.
Equipment: The session page explains the clothing and footwear paddlers should bring but does not publish a current loan-boat or safety-kit inventory. Ask whether a suitable boat, paddle and buoyancy aid are included before booking.
Accessibility: Work began in September 2026 on a wheelchair route between disabled parking, the boathouse, jetty and leisure-centre toilets. No later item in the reviewed set proves it finished or describes transfer support and adaptive craft, so check the current position.
Where the club paddles: River sessions run April through September from the boathouse behind Ancholme Leisure Centre. Pool activity replaces them from October to March. Booking information identifies the correct environment and time.
