Before you join

Adult beginners

Adult canoe tasters usually run on Saturday mornings from April to September and require no previous experience. Coaches cover paddling, steering and river safety. Afterwards, adults can continue pay as they go or apply for membership.

Junior paddlers

Junior beginner courses are for children over 10. Paddlers must be able to swim, and high demand can mean joining a waiting list. Completing the course makes a child eligible for the club's beginner training group.

Equipment

Beginner boats, paddles and buoyancy aids are supplied. Members can use the club fleet, while an allocated racing boat or personal boat storage carries a separate annual charge. Paddlers bring suitable clothing, a towel and footwear for the walk to the river.

Accessibility

Changing rooms, showers and separate toilets are available inside the clubhouse. Details for wheelchair routes, assisted water entry and adapted boats are absent, so discuss support needs before a booking.

Where the club paddles

The Walton Lane clubhouse includes gyms, changing facilities, boat storage and direct access to a varied stretch of the Thames. Summer training is mainly on the water, while weekday winter work moves indoors and weekend river sessions continue when conditions allow.
