Edinburgh Schools Kayak Club
Edinburgh Schools Kayak Club develops young paddlers in canoe slalom and flatwater racing from its Union Canal base at Meggetland. Weekly school-term sessions sit alongside beginner courses, trips and a 2026 summer camp.

Before you join
- Adult beginners
The published paddling programme is for young people rather than adult beginners. Adults should contact the club directly about volunteering, coaching or family arrangements instead of assuming general adult membership is available.
- Junior paddlers
School-term groups cover beginners, developing paddlers and performance training. The 2026 summer camp includes beginner and intermediate classes, with a maximum of 12 paddlers per class and a recommended 25-metre unaided swim ability.
- Equipment
Kayaks, paddles, buoyancy aids and safety equipment are supplied for coached sessions. Paddlers bring suitable warm clothing, a towel and secure footwear. Crocs are not accepted for getting to or from the water.
- Accessibility
The Canalside building provides toilets and somewhere to wash hands. No wheelchair-access or adapted-kit guidance is published, so ask the club about individual support before booking.
- Where the club paddles
The club meets by five shipping containers beside the Union Canal at Meggetland. Weekly training runs during school terms. Winter pool sessions use changing local venues, so follow the booking instructions rather than travelling to an assumed pool.
