East Yorkshire Canoe Club

East Yorkshire Canoe Club relies on volunteers and trains at a private pond in North Cave. Beginners can start from age eight, use the broad boat fleet, learn several disciplines and join trips beyond the pond.

Before you join

Adult beginners: Pond sessions usually run on Saturday mornings from 10:00 to 12:00, with a winter closure normally covering December to February. A newcomer can take up to four taster sessions before applying for membership. Contact the club before attending.
Junior paddlers: Participants must be at least eight and able to swim 50 metres without help. An adult responsible for anyone under 16 must remain on site. The 2026 membership form also covers older students within its junior category.
Equipment: The pond fleet includes kayaks, open canoes and paddleboards in several sizes. Sessions provide helmets, buoyancy aids, cagoules, spray decks and paddles. Members can try equipment before deciding what to buy.
Accessibility: The site has a changing room and an eco-friendly unisex toilet. Public information covers neither wheelchair access nor transfers and adapted boats. The pond is on private land, so discuss individual needs before visiting.
Where the club paddles: Coaching and regular Saturday activity take place at the private pond outside North Cave. Away trips use rivers, canals, sea venues and other water. Session booking is organised through club messaging groups.
