Durham Paddlesport Club

Durham Paddlesport Club is a charity offering coached kayaking, canoeing and paddleboarding on the River Wear. Its programme combines seasonal club nights, winter pool coaching and year-round peer trips.

Before you join

Adult beginners: River Wear coaching normally runs on Thursday evenings during the April to September season. The club moves kayak coaching indoors during colder months and arranges peer paddles throughout the year. A first session is currently offered without charge.
Junior paddlers: The club is aimed at people aged 11 and over. Participation requires an unaided 25-metre swim. Public guidance does not cover consent or supervision for under-18s. Parents should check the current arrangements.
Equipment: The fleet includes kayaks, Canadian canoes, paddleboards and safety equipment. Some boats may be offered on advanced club trips when the paddler has suitable skills and transport can be arranged.
Accessibility: The 25-metre unaided swim requirement applies to all participants. No public access guide covers the Old Corn Mill building, changing spaces or adapted craft. Ask the club before booking.
Where the club paddles: Summer coaching starts from the club's Old Corn Mill base beside Durham's River Wear. Winter pool coaching and peer trips use other venues. The public address does not explain the exact entrance, parking or waterside access route.
