Deveron Canoe Club

Deveron Canoe Club, also known as Deveron Paddlers, runs autumn and winter pool training in Banff. After Easter, members move outside for Thursday evening paddles and weekend trips covering river, sea, surf and open canoeing.

Before you join

Adult beginners: Beginners train in the pool on Thursday evenings during autumn and winter, then can join a suitable outdoor Thursday trip after Easter. The club also runs weekend trips. A current September 2026 course confirms ten weeks of Thursday lessons. Contact the club for a place before attending.
Junior paddlers: Every member needs to swim one 25-metre pool length or an equivalent distance. Primary-age children also need the council's Competent Swimmer Award and a parent or guardian with them throughout pool and outdoor activity. Older juniors may join general trips under a club coach's supervision.
Equipment: The club has canoes, kayaks and a small supply of paddling clothing. Its FAQ also lists paddles, helmets, buoyancy aids and spray decks for members. Choice and fit are limited, and some activities use specialist craft, so ask what is available for the session before booking.
Accessibility: The sports centre lists wheelchair access and an accessible changing room with a movable bed and hoist. A separate hoist serves the pool. This does not prove that each club activity or craft will work for every paddler. Ask the club and centre about support, transfers and suitable equipment.
Where the club paddles: Indoor coaching uses Deveron Community and Sports Centre in Banff. The reviewed beginner page gives a 18:30 to 20:00 Thursday session, while an older activities page shows different historic details. The current course and beginner page take priority. Outdoor destinations vary by trip.
