Deva Canoe Club
Deva Canoe Club is an adult paddlesports club based beside the River Dee in Chester. Members and guests use club boats for seasonal Thursday sessions, year-round Sunday paddles, training and trips on rivers, lakes and the sea.

Before you join
- Adult beginners
Membership is restricted to people aged 18 and older. Newcomers get a maximum of three suitable guest sessions before joining. Thursday evenings start at 17:30 from April to September, while fortnightly Sunday sessions start at 13:15 throughout the year. Contact the club before travelling.
- Junior paddlers
Deva does not accept members under 18. Its current website directs younger paddlers to Chester Riverside Canoe Club instead. Families should check that separate club's current age range, availability and supervision arrangements directly.
- Equipment
Guests can use club boats and kit. The fleet includes sea kayaks, open canoes, standard kayaks, sit-on-tops and stand-up paddleboards. Available personal kit includes buoyancy aids, paddles, helmets, basic cagoules and spray decks. Ask what will fit and be available for the chosen session.
- Accessibility
The national directory marks both sessions and facilities as accessible. Reviewed club pages do not explain routes to the water, toilets, changing areas, boarding assistance, modified craft or personal support. Tell Deva what is needed when arranging a guest session.
- Where the club paddles
Thursday and Sunday river sessions use the Riverside Centre on Lower Park Road. The club's Northgate Arena pool notice still shows the old refurbishment closure. The council says the pools reopened in May 2026, but Deva has not confirmed a new canoe schedule. Check with the club before relying on pool times.
