Before you join

Adult beginners

Beginners can start at a pool session or take a structured course before joining river paddles. Prospective members may attend up to three pool or river sessions before joining. Wednesday evenings are easier, while Thursday paddles expect reasonable competence.

Junior paddlers

Children up to age 11 need a responsible adult with them. Under-eights require one-to-one adult supervision and a buoyancy aid in the pool and on the river. Older children may paddle without that adult on the water, but the club still requires an available responsible adult.

Equipment

All equipment is provided at pool sessions. The club also keeps boats and paddling equipment that members can hire for suitable river activities. Availability, fit, transport and the right craft depend on the session, so agree the equipment plan in advance.

Accessibility

The club records changing facilities and a clubhouse at its Woodbridge base. It does not describe an accessible arrival route, toilet provision, help with boarding, modified boats or individual assistance. Tell the club what is needed before selecting a pool, river or course session.

Where the club paddles

Most paddling starts from Deben Watersports Centre on the tidal River Deben. Pool sessions use Deben Leisure Centre, while monthly outings and whitewater trips use other waterways. Tides, weather, ability and the club calendar determine the final meeting details.
