Dales Canoe Club

People can join Dales Canoe Club from their tenth birthday. The Harrogate-area programme moves from autumn and winter coaching at Starbeck pool to Thursday river, canal and lake outings between Easter and early August.

Before you join

Adult beginners: Pool sessions welcome complete beginners and experienced paddlers. The current autumn 2026 course runs for three Thursday evenings and requires participants to swim 25 metres. Contact the club before attending so it can confirm a course or session place.
Junior paddlers: The current club homepage welcomes paddlers from age 10. It does not publish supervision rules, safeguarding arrangements or whether every pool and river session accepts that age. A parent or carer should confirm the suitable route before booking.
Equipment: The club provides all equipment for its pool sessions. Beginner-course participants bring swimwear, a towel and a top for the water. The outdoor pages do not promise loan kit for every trip, so check the required craft, clothing and safety equipment first.
Accessibility: The national directory flags accessible sessions. Current club pages give no detail about the pool approach, changing rooms, toilets, boarding help, specially adapted craft or individual support. Contact Dales about arrangements for the session you want to attend.
Where the club paddles: Autumn and winter Thursday sessions use Starbeck Swimming Pool. After Easter, the Thursday programme switches between nearby waterways and lake venues until the beginning of August. The pool map therefore applies only to the indoor programme and course.
