Before you join

Adult beginners

Adults can join the club or attend as non-members while deciding. The current membership page says paddlers are expected to join after no more than three trips. Pool sessions and event places carry separate charges, and every river trip has its own experience and equipment requirements.

Junior paddlers

Pool sessions have a minimum age of 12 because of the club's available equipment. A responsible adult needs to attend alongside every young paddler. The family membership tier covers parents and young people aged 13 to 17, so families with a 12-year-old should confirm the correct arrangement directly.

Equipment

Pool-session loan kit covers a kayak, paddle, spraydeck and cagoule. Members may also use the club fleet on trips. Craft suitability, available sizes and transport differ by outing, so agree the equipment plan with the organiser first.

Accessibility

The South Norwood sessions take place in a heated pool with lifeguards. Club information does not describe the route through the leisure centre, changing provision, hoists, assisted entry, specialist craft or help outdoors. Ask both the club and centre about the required arrangements.

Where the club paddles

Alternate Fridays are the usual pool nights inside South Norwood Leisure Centre. The club has no permanent waterside base. Day trips use local flatwater rivers, while whitewater weekends and other outings travel farther afield. Each event listing gives the relevant meeting details.
