Before you join

Adult beginners

Visitors can try up to four pool or outdoor sessions before joining. The current fees page gives separate junior, adult, over-60, student, family and distance tiers for 2026. Tuesday pool sessions run from September to late April or May, while the published outdoor programme started in May. Contact the club first.

Junior paddlers

Juniors are normally at least ten. Eight and nine year olds may be considered when paddling with a parent or guardian, and the club can check swimming confidence before accepting a member. The current membership page defines junior membership as under 18. Confirm a space before attending.

Equipment

Pool sessions provide boats, paddles and spray decks. For outdoor activity the club can supply members with boats, paddles, spray decks, helmets and buoyancy aids. It does not hire ordinary clothing, although a small youth waterproof stock may be available. Ask about size, transport and the planned trip.

Accessibility

The national listing includes PaddleAbility activity, while the club says paddling should be open to varied ages and abilities. The checked pages give no confirmed information about step-free pool access, adapted changing or toilets, assisted transfers, specialist boats or individual support. Ask about the exact session and help needed before booking.

Where the club paddles

Winter pool training uses Copeland Pool on Tuesday evenings. Summer Tuesday groups meet at the club garage near Richmond Hill Road before travelling to venues such as St Bees, Bassenthwaite, Derwentwater and Ennerdale. Trip notices set the experience level and meeting instructions.
