Chester Riverside Canoe Club

Chester Riverside Canoe Club helps children aged 8 to 18 and their parents learn canoeing and kayaking on the River Dee. Volunteer coaches support complete beginners and developing paddlers from the Riverside Centre.

Before you join

Adult beginners: The club is built around young paddlers and their parents, rather than general adult membership. A parent can paddle with their child but must complete a separate form. Each trial costs £7. After three trials, annual membership is £35 and attended sessions cost £5, with unspecified family reductions.
Junior paddlers: The current club site welcomes children aged 8 to 18, from complete beginners onwards. New paddlers must arrange a Sunday date because places are limited. First-time visitors arrive around 9:15am for fitting and briefing, reach the water at 10am, and normally finish at noon.
Equipment: The club supplies boats and paddling equipment. It also keeps some wetsuits and water shoes, but cannot promise every size. Paddlers should bring suitable light layers, secure footwear, a towel and dry clothes. Crocs, jeans and other heavy cotton clothing are discouraged.
Accessibility: Public information confirms changing rooms and on-site parking. It leaves the approach, river entry, transfer help, adaptive craft and personal assistance undocumented. Parents should describe any access needs when requesting a trial and wait for confirmation before travelling.
Where the club paddles: Sunday sessions run from the Riverside Centre on the River Dee, with occasional exceptions. The club asks first-time paddlers to pre-arrange a date and read its conduct and changing-room policies. Volunteer coaches hold Paddle UK, first-aid and paddlesport safety qualifications.
