Castle Craigs Canoe Club

Based in Largs, Castle Craigs Canoe Club has served North Ayrshire sea kayakers for more than 40 years. Members use shared boats and safety kit, develop skills with qualified leaders, and join coastal and river trips.

Before you join

Adult beginners: The joining page lists £75 annual individual membership, £42.50 student membership and an £80 family rate. It also lists paid trial pool sessions, but the same page says those sessions are unavailable. Contact the club for the current route and prices before paying or attending.
Junior paddlers: The club mainly serves adults and juniors aged 14 or over. Its site says younger children may train in a winter pool only when a parent is present in the water and responsible for them. Unaccompanied children under 14 are not taken onto the sea. Current pool availability needs confirmation.
Equipment: Members can use the club's sea, river and pool boats, plus buoyancy aids, paddles and spray decks during sessions and trips. The site does not promise that every size or craft will be available, so newcomers should ask what is reserved for their session and what clothing to bring.
Accessibility: PaddleAbility and disability paddling appear in the national entry. Nothing reviewed sets out the route through the marina, accessible changing, help with transfers, specialist boats or one-to-one assistance. Describe your needs when asking about a session.
Where the club paddles: Tuesday summer sessions leave from the sailing club within Largs Yacht Haven. The club's pages disagree on whether the season starts in April or May and whether paddling begins at 6.30pm or 7pm. Its old pool notice expected reopening in February 2026 but still says sessions are unavailable, so confirm both programmes.
