Burton Canoe Club

Burton Canoe Club is a volunteer-run River Trent club founded in 1978. Adults and young paddlers use its Newton Road clubhouse for coached sessions, trips and touring, with equipment and accessible facilities on site.

Before you join

Adult beginners: WebCollect currently lists adult membership at £65, concessionary at £55, family at £130 and associate at £35. The membership page allows one arranged trial at £15, reduced to £10 when signed in by a member. The FAQ instead says £10 and up to three guest sessions, so confirm the trial rule first.
Junior paddlers: Youth membership is £30 for under-18s in full-time education. The Saturday Afternoon Club is for ages 5 to 18 and runs from 1:30pm to 3:30pm throughout the year. Very young paddlers need suitable parental support, and every first visit should be arranged with the club.
Equipment: Adult, youth and concessionary subscriptions cover the club's shared kit and facilities. WebCollect says course participants can draw from an extensive collection of craft, flotation vests and paddles, with hire included unless stated otherwise. The official membership page additionally lists spray covers and waterproof jackets.
Accessibility: The club reports a tarmac route from the car park to the riverside, plus an accessible toilet, changing and shower suite at ground level. A lift serves the upper floor. Coaches receive disability-awareness training. Ask about craft, transfers and session-specific support before booking.
Where the club paddles: For 2026, Thursday club nights run from 6:30pm to 8:30pm, starting on 9 April and ending on September's final Thursday. Sunday sessions run from 10am to noon all year, with the youth club on Saturday afternoons. Check WebCollect or contact the club before travelling.
