Brighton Explorers Club

Brighton Explorers Club is an over-18s outdoor charity whose paddlesport section uses closed-cockpit kayaks and stand-up paddleboards. It runs summer seafront sessions plus flat-water, whitewater and surf trips farther afield.

Before you join

Adult beginners: Membership is annual and the club does not offer trial memberships. Newcomers can attend a 30-minute prospective-members talk on the second Wednesday each month at 8pm. Kayakers need an induction, must be able to swim 200 metres and pay a £20 paddlesport supplement unless they are low-paid or unwaged.
Junior paddlers: Brighton Explorers Club only accepts members aged 18 or over. Its kayaking and paddleboarding programme is not a junior route.
Equipment: The club can provide kayaks, beginner paddleboards, paddles, buoyancy aids, helmets, spray decks, spray tops, safety kit and some wetsuits. Regular paddlers are expected to start buying personal kit. Event sign-up confirms whether to select a club craft or bring your own.
Accessibility: The Paddle UK listing marks accessible facilities. The club says it generally cannot supply one-to-one support or specialist disability equipment. It asks prospective members to discuss needs with the chair and may discount membership when a personal support person joins.
Where the club paddles: Regular Brighton seafront paddles are listed from May to September on Wednesdays, starting between 6pm and 7pm when conditions allow. The club also arranges local flat-water days and whitewater trips. Members must use the calendar because weather and sign-up requirements control attendance.
