Braintree Canoeing Club

Braintree Canoeing Club runs two weekly pool sessions at Braintree Swimming & Fitness: general practice and coaching on Saturday mornings, plus Wednesday canoe polo. Members also arrange flatwater, whitewater, sea and surf trips throughout the year.

Before you join

Adult beginners: New members start with a one-month induction or taster membership before choosing a longer membership. Saturday mornings are open to members for general practice and formal coaching. Wednesday polo requires a prior Saturday session or evidence of suitable competence.
Junior paddlers: An under-18 paddler needs a parent or guardian to join and attend pool sessions. The club does not publish a fixed minimum age, but the child must be comfortable in water and meet the swimming requirement. A suitable buoyancy aid can be used for that requirement.
Equipment: The club supplies kayaks, paddles and spray decks for Saturday pool sessions, and all equipment needed for Wednesday polo practice. Members can bring clean personal boats. The reviewed pages do not promise the same equipment for outdoor trips, so check each event.
Accessibility: The leisure centre lists a Pool Pod for independent pool entry and disabled toilets. The club asks applicants to declare relevant medical conditions and to swim at least 10 metres, with a buoyancy aid allowed.
