Before you join

Adult beginners

Complete beginners and experienced paddlers first join through the club portal. An introduction is included in the first membership year and can cover kayak, canoe and paddleboard. Participants must be able to swim 50 metres and meet the coach's safety requirements for entering and controlling a craft.

Junior paddlers

The club says its junior group currently starts at around age eight, rather than setting a fixed minimum. Juniors must meet the same 50-metre swimming guidance. A responsible adult stays at the venue throughout every indoor and outdoor session.

Equipment

Introduction-session equipment is included. For later High Rid sessions, the club can supply boats, paddles, wetsuits, buoyancy aids and cags for a charge. Pool sessions can supply kayaks, paddles and spray decks. Members may use their own suitable kit after following the club's rules.

Accessibility

High Rid has basic changing rooms and toilets. Its limited on-site parking prioritises members transporting boats and people with access needs, by arrangement. Westhoughton lists accessible parking, step-free entry, accessible toilets, showers and changing, plus staff trained to help. Ask the club about water entry and craft support.

Where the club paddles

Regular Monday sessions normally use High Rid from April to October and Westhoughton pool from October to April. Outdoor Sunday sessions can run in colder months when conditions and coaches allow. High Rid is not open for independent paddling, so attend only a confirmed official club session.
