Bideford Canoe Club
Bideford Canoe Club is a family-friendly North Devon club for beginners through to experienced paddlers. Members take part in kayak and wave-ski surfing, sea kayaking, flatwater touring, whitewater and open canoeing, with winter pool coaching and club equipment available.

Before you join
- Adult beginners
The club welcomes complete beginners through to expert paddlers. New members apply through the published membership route or contact the secretary first. Its insurance does not allow equipment rental to non-members or taster sessions, so joining must be arranged before using club kit.
- Junior paddlers
The club publishes a general minimum age of nine because younger children do not fit its available equipment. It offers junior and family membership, but that age threshold does not prove every trip or pool session is suitable. Families need to ask about supervision and kit fit.
- Equipment
Members can hire club boats and equipment for a nominal charge. The fleet is mainly whitewater kayaks, with open canoes, sea kayaks, a surf wave ski and smaller craft for younger paddlers. Paddles, spraydecks, buoyancy aids and helmets are also listed. Pool kit must be arranged and transported in advance.
- Accessibility
The club says it aims to be accessible to all, but its Ropewalk premises are a two-storey building with changing facilities and no toilet. None of the checked pages establishes a step-free route, accessible water transfer, adapted craft or personal assistance. The nearest public toilet is on the Quay.
- Where the club paddles
The club store is reached from Ropewalk in Bideford. Its dedicated pool page names Torrington Swimming Pool for fortnightly sessions from September to April, while older pages still name West Buckland School. Treat Torrington as the current published venue and confirm dates before travelling.
