Battersea Canoe Club

- Adult beginners
Membership and club sessions are for adults over 18 who can swim. Beginners can ask about a pool place, but the club limits how many inexperienced paddlers it can support and may use a waiting list. Thames paddles need prior capsize, rescue and basic boat-control experience.
- Junior paddlers
The club explicitly limits membership and sessions to people over 18. The reviewed pages do not offer a junior route. Families looking for youth paddling should use the wider club directory rather than arriving at a Battersea session.
- Equipment
Pool-session boats and paddling kit are provided. The published Thames-session kit includes a kayak, paddle, buoyancy aid, cag, spraydeck and helmet. Members can hire club equipment cheaply for organised trips, but availability and suitability should be confirmed when booking.
- Accessibility
Clapham Leisure Centre lists accessible changing, poolside facilities and a poolside host. The club does not publish adaptive kayak equipment, transfer support or a step-free route to its Barn Elms container and river entry. Discuss the exact session and support needed before booking.
- Where the club paddles
Sunday pool sessions use Clapham Leisure Centre. Tidal Thames sessions start at the club container behind Barn Elms Boathouse and run only when a suitable leader is available. Other trips use changing flatwater, whitewater and surf venues, so follow the booking details for each activity.
