Before you join

Adult beginners

The club welcomes incoming and returning University of Bath students. Beginners can attend an STV pool taster, then buy both Canoe Club membership and SU Sports membership. Before paddling, the club uses a 100-metre swim and five-minute treading-water check. It asks anyone needing an adjustment to email first.

Junior paddlers

The reviewed pages describe a university student club and do not publish a route for children or the wider public. An enrolled student who is under 18 should email the club before attending to confirm membership eligibility, supervision and how the swim check will be handled.

Equipment

River sessions provide boats, paddles and other paddling kit. Participants need their own wetsuit or suitable wet clothing. Pool coaching is included for members, from complete beginners to experienced paddlers. Ask before a session if clothing sizes, adaptive kit or another equipment need could affect participation.

Accessibility

The club lists the entire STV pool site as step-free, with an accessible toilet, changing space and gender-neutral facilities. Reaching the shared boathouse and the water involves steps. The club can arrange ramps, but an internal upper level has no lift. Most river locations lack facilities, so discuss each trip in advance.

Where the club paddles

Four weekly pool sessions and canoe polo training use the STV pool. Wednesday river sessions meet at the shared Bath Canoe Club boathouse beside the Avon. Trips leave from a separate campus car park and visit changing venues. Timetables can move, so members should follow the weekly email and club calendar.
