Bath Canoe Club

Bath Canoe Club is a volunteer-run club with a River Avon clubhouse in Walcot. It supports beginners through tasters and Paddle Discover courses, then offers flatwater, racing, sea, whitewater and paddleboard activities. Its Bath Rapids programme gives 11 to 16-year-olds a separate summer route into paddling.

Before you join

Adult beginners: Adults can start with a three-hour instructor-led taster or the six-evening Paddle Discover course. The reviewed page currently shows no upcoming taster dates, and its published 2026 Discover dates have passed. Experienced paddlers can choose standalone membership, while others are expected to reach Paddle Explore standard before club trips.
Junior paddlers: Standalone membership is open from age 6 with written consent from a parent or guardian, but that does not mean every session suits every child. Bath Rapids is a separate six-week programme for ages 11 to 16. Its 2026 block has finished and the club says it will return in 2027.
Equipment: Course equipment includes boats, paddles, buoyancy aids, helmets and spraydecks. Members can use club equipment during organised activities. Taking boats or kit away from the site has stricter rules: the published loan policy normally requires an annual member aged 18 or over with the relevant assessed skill.
Accessibility: The club describes its coaching environment as accessible and inclusive, and the national directory marks Paddleability activity. The reviewed pages do not give a step-free route, adaptive boat list or transfer-support plan for the clubhouse. Ask about the building, changing space and individual support before booking.
Where the club paddles: The Old Organ Factory beside the River Avon is the clubhouse and course base. Members also use a separate pool and travel to canals, sheltered water, the coast and whitewater venues. Event locations and trip requirements vary, so use the current calendar and booking details before travelling.
