Basingstoke Canal Canoe Club

Basingstoke Canal Canoe Club is a family-centred club at the Canal Centre in Mytchett. It specialises in flatwater racing and also organises touring, sea kayaking, whitewater and open canoe trips. New members complete an introduction and assessment before gaining wider access to boats and facilities.

Before you join

Adult beginners: Adult membership is available. Every new member, including experienced paddlers, must attend an introduction and assessment with a supervised capsize drill. Completing it opens access to the boat fleet, gym, facilities, training and coaching. Check the calendar before relying on a particular course or session.
Junior paddlers: Junior membership covers under-18s. Children in school year 3 or above can join activities with an accompanying adult. Younger children can only take part within their family group. A parent or guardian remains responsible, and under-18s need that adult on club trips and expeditions.
Equipment: The club provides equipment and introductory training while newcomers get started. After completing a suitable course or being assessed as competent, members may borrow an appropriate club boat. The fleet includes racing, general-purpose and touring boats, sea kayaks, playboats and Canadian canoes.
Accessibility: The Canal Centre publishes accessible parking, toilets, a ramp and wheelchair-friendly paths around the visitor centre. Those facilities do not confirm access into the club's barn, a waterside transfer route, adaptive boats or individual paddling support. Discuss those needs with the club before joining a session.
Where the club paddles: The clubhouse is in the large barn at Basingstoke Canal Centre in Mytchett. Racing, courses and some club activities use the canal, while touring, sea and whitewater trips meet elsewhere. Follow the club calendar and the organiser's arrival instructions rather than treating the map as a launch point.
