Basingstoke and Deane Canoe Club
Basingstoke and Deane Canoe Club paddles from Colt Hill Wharf in Odiham, Queen Mary's College pool and a monthly Newbury session. Members take part in canal touring, river and sea kayaking, whitewater, open canoe trips and stand-up paddleboarding. Newcomers can try two temporary-member sessions before choosing full membership.

Before you join
- Adult beginners
Newcomers can buy temporary membership for their first two sessions. The reviewed 2026 price is £10 for an adult, plus any equipment charge. Full 2026/27 fees vary by joining month, and the club asks new members to email before using its online process. Experienced paddlers can join regular sessions and graded trips where suitable.
- Junior paddlers
The 2026/27 table defines juniors as ages 5 to 17 and infants as ages 0 to 5, but those fee bands do not prove that every session accepts each age. Temporary junior membership is £5 for two sessions, plus equipment where needed. Families should ask about supervision, swimming ability and the chosen activity.
- Equipment
Members can borrow kayaks, canoes, SUPs and associated kit for a charge. A boat loan can include a spraydeck, buoyancy aid, cagoule, paddle and helmet where needed. Availability is tighter in summer, and longer loans need advance approval and collection from Colt Hill during a regular session.
- Accessibility
The club says trained volunteer coaches support paddlers with physical, learning or mental disabilities. It has a mobile mechanical hoist for transfers into kayaks and canoes and works with specialist organisations. Contact the club in advance so it can assess the venue, coaching and equipment required for an individual session.
- Where the club paddles
Saturday sessions run year-round from Colt Hill. Wednesday evenings use Colt Hill in warmer months and Queen Mary's College pool in colder months. A monthly Sunday session uses Newbury Wharf. Published sessions still depend on coaches, leaders and keyholders, so check the newsletter or calendar before travelling.
