Axe Vale Canoe Club

Axe Vale Canoe Club is based by the harbour at Seaton and paddles the Axe estuary, sea, surf and rivers. Its programme spans touring, whitewater, sea kayaking, open canoeing and SUP. Public beginner and junior courses are next advertised from May 2027, while experienced members paddle on Wednesday evenings.

Before you join

Adult beginners: Public beginner and improver courses in kayak, canoe and SUP are next advertised for May to July 2027. Wednesday club nights run from April to September for members already at Club Standard, Explore or equivalent level. The 2026 membership page lists adults at £104, with pro-rata rates for later joiners; confirm the current price before paying.
Junior paddlers: The minimum membership age is 11. The next advertised junior courses are for ages 11 to 15 from May 2027, with five Saturday sessions in each block. Summer Saturday sessions continue to October. Wednesday attendance depends on experience and coach guidance.
Equipment: Beginners can normally borrow a boat and the main safety kit. The published stock covers kayaks, open canoes, paddles, buoyancy aids, spray decks, cags, helmets and waterproof trousers. Showers and changing are available, but sizes and kit still need checking for the chosen session.
Accessibility: The clubhouse has showers and changing facilities. The reviewed pages do not describe step-free access, accessible changing, adaptive equipment or individual paddling support. Ask the club about the harbour site and selected session.
Where the club paddles: The base sits within Axe Yacht Club grounds by the harbour. The club advises new visitors to park on Harbour Road or Riverside Way and use the pedestrian gate because on-site parking needs a valid permit. Session routes can use the estuary, sea or surf, so check the programme before travelling.
