Aboyne Canoe Club SCIO
Aboyne Canoe Club SCIO runs year-round paddling in Royal Deeside, including whitewater kayaking, open canoeing, canoe polo and stand-up paddleboarding. Non-members can book a taster before joining, with club craft and safety kit available at organised activities.

Before you join
- Adult beginners
The club recommends trying an indoor or outdoor session before buying membership. Non-members are welcome at a taster, but sessions may need advance booking. Adult and family membership routes are published on the official joining page.
- Junior paddlers
Under-18s join with a parent or legal guardian. An adult must accompany under-16s throughout each activity. A coach may allow someone aged 16 or 17 to attend without an adult only after an individual decision and advance arrangement.
- Equipment
Members can use club open canoes, stand-up paddleboards, whitewater and slalom kayaks, canoe-polo boats, paddles, cags, wetsuits, drysuits, buoyancy aids and helmets during organised activities. Availability still depends on the session and suitable sizing.
- Accessibility
The council lists wheelchair access, accessible changing and a pool hoist at Aboyne Swimming Pool, with advance contact requested. These venue features do not confirm help transferring into a boat or access at river and loch sessions. Discuss the activity you need before booking.
- Where the club paddles
Winter sessions use Aboyne Swimming Pool for coaching, skills and canoe polo. Outdoor practices usually run from May to August, mainly below Aboyne Bridge, with some sessions at nearby lochs. Conditions and booking determine the actual venue, so follow the latest club instructions.
